I am happy to report that I am now completely moved in to college, and have a complete week of class under my belt. I have had a ton of fun so far. The week started out pretty cool My room mate Bill, and I went to see a comedian the first night, and then we also went and saw a hypnotist perform on sunday, and we went to play bingo. Sunday, I played in an ultimate Frisbee game with some guys from our apartment complex, all in all we had about 30 guys playing at one point. It was great fun. Monday-Wed-Friday I have Black and White Photography, and Math, both of which are pretty great classes, I am not too worried about either. Tuesday-Thursday I have Drawing, 2d Design, and Fitness, all of which should be pretty good as well. I keep getting asked what grade I am in, and I still have no idea what to say, since I have 9 credits and technically went through a year of college already, plus with working full time last semester (I count working as a class because I learned a ton there) I’m calling myself a sophomore. My answer seems to appease everyone, so all is good. I am also working on revision 2 of my book (link on right hand nav bar) which will be out shortly. So, if you are thinking about ordering one I recommend you let me fix a few errors, and hold off till I post here about it. I went out a bunch in Williamsport this week on my little 10 to 15 mile round trip, “photo-trips” scouting locations to do some hiking, fishing, and photography. I found a ton of great places, and below are a few of the pictures from my adventures:
This was taken just off of route 654 (I think that was it) I managed to hop out of my car and setup my tripod just as the sun set.
I took this shot at the top of a very high incline in Williamsport. After this photo was taken, Mitch, Matt, Bill, Shade, and I climbed down to the bottom. It was great, except for the walk back up.
This was also taken off of 654, right near a few of the farms that litter that area.
This photo was taken on what Mitchell and I call “Carpathian Ridge” after the movie Donnie Darko. When we first saw this ridge it was bathed in mist and fog, and the blue hues immediately reminded us of the opening scene of Donnie Darko.
This is another sunset pano taken off of a random road. At that point, I was looking for an easy way back to Williamsport on Bill’s GPS, so I was not really paying attention to road signs, instead I was looking for a safe place to pull over and setup my tripod.
On my way up to college I stopped off on the Susquehanna to take a few photos, this is the river, as it flows past 15 North.
The pebbles in the water were incredibly smooth, and their color comes out amazingly under HDR.
This is an HDR self portrait. I wanted to imitate the silly pictures people take of themselves in the mirror for sites like myspace or facebook, then make it actually a decent picture, by mirroring the image, and creating an HDR work.
This window belongs to the Heim building at Lycoming College. I loved the way the light and shadow worked in the window, so I setup my tripod and snapped a few quick pictures.
This photo is of Williamsport at night. I drove a bit out of town, running parallel to the power lines, knowing that they few the orange glow of the street lamps. Once at a good height, I used the diagonals drawn by the power lines to mark out where I wanted to align my camera.
This was taken at a quarry by my apartment. I setup my tripod quickly, took a few shots, and left without passing that gate. It looked like the type of place that was pretty strict about security.
This shot was taken at the same place. I was experimenting with HDR at night since I finally got a decent tripod, and I thought this turned out rather nicely.
This last image was also taken of the Heim Building. I loved the way the light worked in the windows. Those are all the pictures for now, and my laundry just finished so its time to go to bed (its 4:28 am here.) I hope you enjoyed this photoset, and stay tuned for more updates. As usual check my flickr for the latest and greatest shots even before they are posted here, and my gallery for the high resolution photos.
